‣ Let’s see: You’re a big promoter with huge stages erected at a venue that’s idle the weekend between your major festivals. How might you maximize all that rigging? If you’re Goldenvoice, you fill the void between the Coachella and Stagecoach festivals by inviting some of your favorite metal friends to play. That’s what’ll happen Saturday, April 23, at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, which will host the Big Four – a conflagration of shreddy rock giants Metallica (pictured), Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax. The pre-Easter Sunday concert is a one-day deal, with a general admission price tag of $99, and tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday. There also will be shuttle services offered from various Southland location.
‣ Speaking of Coachella, those $699 VIP passes are sold out.
‣ There’s a new place in town – well, North Hollywood, anyway. The Federal Bar opens this weekend at 5303 Lankershim Blvd., in the 1926 bank building previously occupied by the Bank Heist nightclub (which was shuttered two years ago this month after being damaged by fire). The upstairs room will host live music, and renowned bassist Stanley Clarke will get things hopping this Friday at 8 p.m.
