‣ Long-running art-rock trio Yo La Tengo hits the El Rey Theatre with a plan to play two 45-minute sets; the songs in the first will be determined by the spin of a giant wheel (categories include “Songs Starting With S,” “Name Game” and “Dump,” the James McNew side project).
‣ The Global Green Pre-Oscar Party features Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (pictured), Portugal. The Man and Best Coast at the Avalon.
‣ Hot rapper Freddie Gibbs performs with a live band at the Troubadour, supported by Free the Robots and 87 Stick Up Kids.
‣ Godspeed You Black Emperor plays to a sold-out Music Box.
‣ And mash-up duo the Hood Internet visits the Echo.
