Red Cortez is finishing strong. The final installment of the weekly EPs the L.A. quartet has been releasing (free) during this month’s residency includes a sparkling new track, “Over the City,” and two favorites from their lives sets, “All Ye People” and “Western Front.” You don’t have to be highly paid A&R person, or even a beleaguered blogger, to traverse the 16 songs in Red Cortez’s February feast and conclude that there’s a pretty good album in there somewhere. It’s time for them to send one out into the cold, cruel world.
||| Download: “Over the City” or visit Red Cortez’s website and trade your e-mail address for any or all of this month’s EPs. (Physical copies are also available at the show.)

i cannot forsee that Red Cortez could be any beter than they were last week but they will certainly be no worse. for them to follow the great set by Eastern Conference Champions and to walk on to Gil Scott Herons “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised” they played with balls bigger than anyone uses any night at Staples and owned the room. i am sure tonight they can and will exceed even those levels.
Hello der,
I like the blog. Thanks for all the new bands to look up. I’m promoting an interesting one off project, Suede Ape, that brought together some pretty talented and creative LA musicians from different backgrounds including Geoff Rowan (In Sepia), and Andrew Monzon (Last Legs). Instead of a typical guitar, bass, drums line up, some electronic elements (kaos pad, synth, drum pad, etc.) were used to keep it fresh. There was no big concept besides the simple idea of editing a jam into an album, but that’s kind of what’s exciting about an unplanned thing like this: your not sure where it will go. Have a listen. See if you like”¦
Thanks!
