My new found love for Fort Stockton, Texas, knows no bounds.

Fort Stockton, at first glance, is a broken town. Most stores/restaurants/gas stations in town are boarded up, the gas signs show prices that make you think they have been closed for awhile. At this point we are walking zombies, we have been awake for the better part of 30 hours. After some debate we decided to eat at “K Bob’s Steak House.” A risk to say the least. I always feel terrible for Melissa (vegetarian) when it comes to eating on the road, luckily they had an extensive salad bar/wagon.  She also ordered a quesedilla that was bigger then her head. Greg and I played to the room and went with the steaks. I must have eaten 7 of these sweet dinner rolls they had. I could go on about these dinner rolls for another couple paragraphs.  I don’t like spending this much money for food on the road but I needed it after that drive.

After dinner we decided to take in the Fort Stockton night life. I asked a homeless man if he could recommend a place, I know that’s kind of fucked, but they really do know the cheapest places to drink. He kindly told us the only bar in town is “The Good Times Lounge” on the east side of town, literally across the tracks. Good times indeed. This place was amazing. A windowless room lined with wooden paneling littered with neon beer signs. Looks like any basement in Bucks County.  You can smoke inside and they only served beer. We destroyed this place. Greg and I played some of the best pool of our lives. I encouraged Melissa to mingle with the locals. We dissected the jukebox. It was a great night and perfect setup for SXSW.

Upon arriving into Fort Stockton I hated everyone who was flying to Austin, but after tonight I am reassured that the drive through Texas is a crucial part to the SXSW experience.
