You Say Party calls it quits

You Say Party, the Canadian dance-punk band that was known as You Say Party! We Say Die! before the death last year of drummer Devon Clifford, is callings it quits, for now. “Becky, Derek and I are announcing the immediate cease to activity as YSP,” bassist Stephen O’Shea said in an announcement today. “Call it a hiatus. Call it a break. Call it whatever you want.  It’s been a hard year for us. Not a bad year. We’ve experience wonderful support from people.  But you gotta listen to your body and your mind when it begins to revolt against what you think it is you have to do.”

O’Shea, Becky Ninkovic and Krista Loewen emerged in 2005 with the album “Hit the Floor!” and became radio favorites in Canada. At a show one year ago Saturday in Vancouver, Clifford collapsed onstage and died two days later of a brain hemorrhage. A foundation has been established in his name.

“We’re gonna stop for a while, and we’re gonna work on who we are as people,” O’Shea said in the statement. “We know that everyone understands exactly why and where we’re coming from.”
