Who: Interpol on the main stage
In 3 or Fewer Words: Dour, light
I’ll Remember This Until: I see someone else who actually has an interesting light show. Pre-set, Interpol’s hype-meter reading was wavering in the red, thanks to a supposed light-and-video collaboration that was part of a forward-thinking group called the Creator’s Project. What we got instead was a fairly standard edited-video montage with four fixed angles, plus a few prerecorded animated videos – including auteur David Lynch’s “I Touch a Red Button Man” – that, frankly, were more interesting than watching the dour, dynamicless band on stage in the first place. At least the post-show lights were actually interesting.
