Coachella: Neon Trees, ‘Animal’ magnetism

Who: Neon Trees in the Gobi tent
In 3 Words Or Fewer: Groan.
I’ll Remember This Until: I see another band with a “tough” image singing flowery Killers-esque songs. It’s amazing what one radio hit will do, and Neon Trees would know this better than any other band at this year’s festival. (Foster the People follow closely behind.) However, owning a chart-topper can quickly become pressure for a band as fans discover the rest of their repertoire. Those in the nearly full Gobi Tent who were just waiting to hear “Animal,” were obligated to suffer through an entire set watching Tyler Glenn lead his glam-studded band through gaudy gestures and songs without any strong destinations. By the time, Kanye West had bombastically beckoned everyone to the main stage, no one seemed to “want some more.”
What I Would Say To My Friend Who Was At PJ Harvey: Lucky.
