[Happy weekend. Just a reminder that today is the day tickets go on sale for the Hollywood Bowl season. Yeah, including the National’s show on the 10-year anniversary of 9/11.]
I don’t wanna say that if you aren’t out tonight you aren’t breathing, but it is the busiest Saturday night in recent memory:
‣ Their sophomore album “Helplessness Blues” now safely stashed in the repository of your choice, Fleet Foxes bring their lush harmonizing to the Palladium. The Cave Singers open.
‣ The Saturdays Off the 405 series returns to the Getty Center, with Long Beach indie rockers Avi Buffalo performing (and your humble Buzz Bands LA blogger DJing). Festivities kick off at 6 p.m. (parking is free after 5).
‣ L.A.’s favorite siblings in harmony, the Living Sisters (Inara George, Becky Stark, Eleni Mandell and Alex Lilly) are the centerpiece of The Songs of Patsy Cline program at Disney Hall, a night that will feature guests Zooey Deschanel, John Doe, Shirley Manson, John C. Reilly and Charlie Wadhams.
‣ The Submarines headline the Troubadour behind their latest album “Love Notes/Letter Bombs,” and early arrival is recommended for openers Pepper Rabbit and White Sea.
‣ Portugal. The Man – their big Atlantic Records debut “In the Mountain in the Cloud” due in July (I like the first single, streaming here) play the House of Blues Anaheim, with Telekinesis supporting.
‣ Some of the best power-pop in these parts: The 88 and Taylor Locke & the Roughs team up for an early show at the Echo (5 p.m.).
‣ Guitar legend Richard Thompson plays a sold-out show at McCabe’s.
‣ The FMLY Ride – the monthly bicycle jaunt featuring guerilla performances by several bands – will end up with a show by 3D whiz kids Kid Infinity.
‣ And to continue to add diversity to this list, there’s the Lucha Lounge Mexican Wrestling Show at the Nomad Gallery (1993 Blake Ave.), which will be capped by our favorite kind of pummeling, a set from 400 Blows.
‣ And it’s Prince show No. 10 … 11 … 15? … Aw, I’ve lost track. But he’s been owning the Forum.
