LaBrie’s Lounge in Glendale shuttered

LaBrie’s Lounge, the Glendale bar that has hosted many local shows (including weekly events by Radio Free Silver Lake), has closed. “Just not enough business, and the economy is still a hindrance,” Jimmy LaBrie said via e-mail today. “I am sure we will be back soon; as for now we need to restructure.”
The venue, which was formerly known as the Scene, occasionally did robust business with local bands, and remodeling and sound system improvements had made the 200-capacity room viable, or better, for shows. But the venue always seemed plagued by the perception that Glendale was too far from the center of hipster universe, even though the bar is about 10 minutes from Silver Lake.
That’s a bummer. I did a few shows with The World Record there over the last year and really enjoyed that place. The sound was a LOT better than it was when it was The Scene, and the staff was very friendly. Hope they come back!
And they never had beer for sale. I think that might have hurt their bottom line. I had to bring my own.
they sold PBR for 6 dollars.
Shoot that’s sad. I went to some of the Radio Free Silverlake residencies and LaBrie’s was a cool little place to see shows. The sound was really good for a small place too.
Sad. As far as distance, I drive from OC to LA shows… 10 minutes? I wish!
i for one wont miss it at ALL. like AT ALL
I went to LaBrie’s for the first time earlier this year and was surprised just how close and easy-to-get-to it was. I was looking forward to seeing many more shows there. Bummer.
