Download: Ty Segall, ‘You Make the Sun Fry’

San Francisco’s garage-rock prodigy Ty Segall has been consistently merciless when it comes to packing the heat in to his heavy, fuzzed-out guitar tunes. Although he’s a member of a handful of Bay Area bands, he’s been able to churn out album after album of material that has paved the way for artists such as Wavves. However, Segall’s meaty distortion has always been offered with a side of pop hooks that transcend the barriers of the lo-fi division. Prior singles such as “Girlfriend” not only featured a sing-along tribute to his significant other, but it was also coated with gnarly howls, hand-claps and some heavy piano pounding. On Segall’s most recent album, “Goodbye Bread,” songs like “You Make the Sun Fry” are still no longer than two minutes and guitar riffs have not been tamed, but the growls seem to have settled giving way to a psychedelic groove.
