[No tantrums today – it’s Fitz’s birthday. Cheers to Michael Fitzpatrick on the eve of his band’s big homecoming show at the Music Box:]
Tonight’s flurry of activity:
‣ This week’s installment of the free Also I Like to Rock series at the Hammer Museum will sizzle with a little joie de pop – headlining are Grouplove, the L.A. quintet whose debut album “Never Trust a Happy Song” arrives Sept. 13 via Canvasback/Atlantic. The fivesome has Lollapalooza, Australia’s Splendour in the Grass and the Reading and Leeds festivals in the U.K. ahead this summer, and tonight offers a chance to see them in the cozy Hammer courtyard. Opening is Milo Greene [background], the new L.A. quintet whose harmony-laden, cinematic indie-pop figures to sparkle in the Hammer setting. The free show in the museum’s courtyard kicks off at 7 p.m. with a DJ set from KCRW’s Eric J. Lawrence. The Hammer’s galleries will be open until 9 p.m., and parking is $3 in the deck beneath the museum. The series is sponsored by KCRW and curated by Buzz Bands LA.
