[Happy August – where is this summer going? – and happy birthday to Dhani Harrison. Good shows tonight? We’ve got a few …]
Monday madness:
‣ Singer-songwriter Robert Francis, largely out of the L.A. eye (but big in Europe) since releasing “Before Nightfall” in 2009, is back with a new batch of songs and this month’s Bootleg Theater residency. Here’s your tip: Francis’ new material is remarkable. Tonight, Boots Electric and Taylor Locke support.
‣ Active Child, whose debut album “You Are All I See” comes out later this month, kicks off the Echo residency, with Letting Up Despite Great Faults and Cassettes Won’t Listen open.
‣ The Ross Sea Party dives into its Silverlake Lounge residency with Wires in the Walls on the undercard.
‣ Folk foursome Stone Darling launches a busy August with their Satellite residency tonight – J. Tillman of Fleet Foxes opens – and Saturday’s New L.A. Folk Festival on the horizon.
‣ Chicago’s Maps & Atlases, behind their very good Barsuk Records release “Perch Patchwork,” headlines the Troubadour with Princeton and Soft Swells supporting.
‣ The Belle Brigade does the “Homegrown” program at the Grammy Museum. This has been canceled due to illness.
‣ And the Californian and Sing the Body Electric rock the Viper Room.
