There is no doubt that the Mountain Goats‘ John Darnielle is an impressive wordsmith. Autobiographical tales or not, the musician has now released 14 studio albums in addition to several EPs and cassettes that showcase exquisite storytelling, and the band’s latest record, “All Eternals Deck” contains lyrics that have not backed down. Darnielle’s daunting layers of metaphor, evident in “Estate Sale Sign,” come easier to digest thanks to the video directed by Brooklyn-based team Awesome and Modest. The animation featured in this clip is odd and quirky, much like the bulk of the Mountain Goats’ catalog. We watch a couple turn into monsters as they initially fight over a snow globe, then end up viciously tearing each other apart only to go separate ways in the end.
