One more cycle of 365 days and it will roughly be seven years since the Parson Red Heads first moved from Portland, Ore., to City of Angels. Of course, we were sad to see them go when they decided to return to their original hometown last year, but the folk group, which centered around husband and wife Evan and Brett Marie Way and friend Sam Fowles, had contributed a large chunk to the local music scene during their five years as an L.A. band.  The Parson Red Heads’ live lineups often included musician friends in the community who, like most of their fans in the scene, had fallen for the band’s pure and ample psych-pop along with the innocent, meaningful stories that accompanied the melodies. As one of these people, Red Rockets Glare’s Raymond Richards went on to produce the band’s album, “Yearling,” which is available today via Arena Rock Recording Company. Although the video for “Seven Years Ago” highlights their community up north, it’s nice to know the Parson Red Heads still tote a piece of SoCal around wherever they offer tunes from the new record.
