Last week’s installment of Buzz Bands LA’s SecondTuesday songwriter night at Lot 1 Cafe in Echo Park proved to be a special affair – four artists pouring out a wide range of music to our biggest crowd yet for the series. Radical Face (aka Florida’s Ben Cooper) played some of the character-rich folk from his new album “Family Tree: The Roots.” Brooklyn-based Cerise, backed by Rob Campanella (Brian Jonestown Massacre, the Quarter After) and John Girgus (Aberdeen, Non Ultra Joy), drenched the room in noirish dream-pop;  Paulie Pesh, dueting with his wife Cristal, offered stripped-down versions of his sunny pop that’s usually played by a 12-piece mini-orchestra; and Alanna Lin, joined by on some songs by her sister Alice (Eagle and Talon), kicked off the night with her plaintive-but-sneaky-smart folk tunes. Next SecondTuesday is Sept. 13 – lineup announcement coming soon.
