More than two dozen Los Angeles bands (not to mention worker bees from all tentacles of the music industry) will converge on San Diego next weekend for the San Diego Music Thing, a mini-South by Southwest that offers two-plus days of club shows and workshops. Highlights include sets by Linda Perry’s Deep Dark Robot and Exene Cervenka, as well indie darlings such as Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. (pictured), Abe Vigoda and Crystal Antlers.

Telekinesis plays the opening party on Thursday, Sept. 8, before the festival gets into full swing Sept. 9-10. Some of the L.A. artists showcasing their wares include Vanaprasta, Saint Motel, the Silent Comedy, Youngblood Hawke, Nico Vega, the New Divison, Eli James, Andy Clockwise, Love Grenades, 8mm, So Many Wizards, Barrio Tiger, Jail Weddings and Jr. Juggernaut. You can get the complete schedule here.

The conferences cover everything from music industry basics to marketing to social media to music licensing to the law. Jim Lindberg (Pennywise) is the featured speaker. Badges are $45 through Sept. 8, $50 on the day of the conference.
