Kissing in a F*cked Up video? Shows of affection and hardcore punk metal may seem a weird duality, but kudos to the Toronto band for writing an album that also happens to be a four-act rock opera, then finding a way to cleverly translate the story with a punk mentality – and without being grandiose. To bring the story of “David Comes to Life” to actual life, F*cked Up have started to release clips in chronological order, and they’ve been wise with choosing directors. “Queen of Hearts,” the first video directed by Scott Cudmore, involved schoolchildren screaming the lyrics, and the second, “The Other Shoe” directed by Matt Eastman, involves a meeting between the main character and his lover, with band members seemingly traveling to an important destination and a creepy stalker character paralleling David’s existence. Embrace the sentimentality now, because the track “A Little Death” is coming up in Act III.
I’m glad you explained the concept, because that video made very little sense without the context that it’s part of a rock opera. That is pretty rad, I like the song and the video is beautifully shot.
