Video: Wild Flag, ‘Romance’

“It says it’s a pie chart; it’s shaped like a square. Who did that?” It sounds (and looks) like Carrie Brownstein’s work in her quirky sketch show “Portlandia” with Fred Armisen has influenced a bit of Wild Flag‘s new video for “Romance.”  The supergroup of former riot grrrls, who have all played in bands such as Sleater-Kinney, Quasi, Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks and more, take a break from their office lives and have some spontaneity-driven fun during their lunch hour in the Tom Scharpling-directed clip. Masks are worn, dogs frolic in the park, basketballs are thrown and Arcade Fire records are knocked down from the displays. Brownstein, Rebecca Cole, Mary Timony, and Janet Weiss all seem like they would be fun to hang with. Then again, we’ve always thought that.
