Picks for your busy Friday night:
‣ The Ruby Friedman Orchestra, with their debut release on the way and “(That’s Why I Let You) Hang Around” already in your iPod (we hope), hold forth at the House of Blues on a bill that also includes the Hush and Silent Treatment.
‣ The good news is that Canadian synth-freaks Gobble Gobble have changed their name. They’re now called Born Gold. The better news is that their new album “Bodysongs” is spazzy fun. They visit the Echo tonight, with Cassettes Won’t Listen opening.
‣ Thievery Corporation just released a new concert documentary, “Live at the 9:30 Club,” filmed over five nights at the Washington, D.C., venue. They’ll get one night, and probably a good one – they headline the Greek Theatre, with Fitz & the Tantrums and AM & Shawn Lee opening.
‣ Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. headlines the Troubadour behind their new release “It’s a Corporate World.” That’s their video for “Nothing But Our Love,” above.
‣ The Nacional Records Road Trip hits the Music Box with a star-tudded lineup – Los Amigos Invisibles, Nortec Collective, Bostich + Fussible and Ana Tijoux.
‣ Capital Cities bring their big synth-pop to the Bootleg, supported by Hello Vegas.
‣ And there’s a very good local lineup at the Central SAPC in Santa Monica, with LA Font, Taylor Locke & the Roughs, News of the Fire and the New Limb.
