Video: Papa, ‘I Am the Lion King’

With its ticklish guitar line and groovy groove, “I Am the Lion King” – the first single from Papa – has plenty of spring in its step, even if the band’s creator, singer-drummer Darren Weiss, might not. Weiss, the Encino native who formed the band with pal Daniel Presant, is also the drummer for Girls, and just finished a tour on which he did double duty, with Papa opening for the San Francisco outfit. You’ll likely hear more of Papa’s indie soul-pop soon; the band’s “A Good Woman Is Hard to Find” EP was released last week, and recording a full-length album is nigh. Meanwhile, Jonathan Hausfater’s video for the title may get your hips shaking.
