After changing their name from the Smiles to the Miracals due to legal complications, the John McGrath, Will Sturgeon and Mark Edwards follow up their sunny “Hermosa” EP with sophomore effort “Give Me a Chance” (out Nov. 7). Leaving behind the jangly afro-beat influences of Vampire Weekend and embracing an indie pop sound that aligns more with the Beach Boys, the title track also offers cleaner melodies that yelp with earnest hooks. “Oh, girl” isn’t a new phrase in pop music, but boy, is it easy to sing in your head long after listening when paired up with a nice chorus.
