Before I get all giddy about tonight’s LA Buzz Bands show on KCSN (88.5 FM) – and I am giddy – some thank-yous are in order. First, thanks to everybody who contributed to KCSN’s “Pump the Power” pledge drive (you can still donate here). And second, tip of the cap to Mark Sovel, aka Mr. Shovel, who filled for me last week while I was vacationing (you can stream his show here).

Now, about tonight: There was quite a rush of new music that came my way recently, so this week’s show will feature a boatload of premieres. I’ll have new songs from Voxhaul Broadcast and Willoughby, and freshly minted tracks from several new projects by familiar SoCal artists, including Electric Flower (Imaad Wasif), Pisces (Sarah Negahdari of the Happy Hollows), NO (Bradley Hanan Carter of Steriogram), Imperial Mammoth (Leonard Jackson of the Forward), Omniflux (Mahsa Zargaran of Sabrosa Purr) and Touché (Alex Lilly of Obi Best with Bram Inscore). In addition, I’ll have the first track from a new EP by David Newton & Thee Mighty Angels – Newton is known to the L.A. music scene as the producer who’s worked with the Little Ones, the Henry Clay People, the Happy Hollows and many more. Before he settled in L.A. in the mid-’90s, he was songwriter-guitarist of the British quartet the Mighty Lemon Drops, and his new EP is his first release since 1992.
