Gary Clark Jr. is no overnight sensation, but he’s certainly turning out to be sensational. Just shy of his 28th birthday, the blues revivalist has earned comparisons to Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan as his career has been incubated by key players in the Austin music scene. Last year he toured with Eric Clapton, traversed both sides of the Atlantic and certified himself as a festival attraction, dispensing hot flashes of blues and psychedelia. In an era rock ’n’ soul is flirted with, sampled, ladled with irony and dismantled, Clark’s “Bright Lights” EP sounds like the real deal.
