New York City’s Morningwood had its 3 minutes, 55 seconds of fame in 2005-06 with “Nth Degree,” an oh-so-silly but very, very catchy single that should have its author, bassist Pedro Yanowitz, cashing checks well into the next decade. Some minor hoorahs followed, but nothing that spelled huge success for the band or its wispy-voiced lead singer, Chantal Claret. The songstress, who’s now switched coasts and works out of L.A., is reinventing herself as a rock ’n’ soul diva with her solo project. The track “Bite Your Tongue” is featured on her debut EP “The Pleasure Seeker” (out digitally this week), and a full-length album, “The One, the Only,” will follow in June. Claret has always possessed more charisma than chops, and with all the dynamic soul singers around these days, it’s hard to imagine this will last an Nth of a second. But who knows.
