Who: Abe Vigoda in the Gobi Tent
In 3 or Fewer Words: Work in progress.
Forgettable Because: Even four albums in, these products of the L.A. underground still haven’t found anything that breaks them out of insular cools-kids-making-music-for-other-cool-kids bubble. Which is not to say the quartet won’t, because as their lunch hour set for Coachella early birds showed, they are viciously good players who weave all sorts of rhythmic intricacies into their Cure-in-a-blender sound. Singer Michael Vidal’s sufficiently anguished vocals cut through it all nicely, and if the music was a little melody-starved, Abe Vigoda lacked nothing for energy wasn’t. “Thanks for coming early, this is awesome,” Vidal said. If all those kids came back for Squeeze on Saturday, it would be too.
What I’d Tell My Friends Who Were at Wallaper: At least you got your dance on.
