Tenlons Fort, the musical stronghold of itinerant songwriter/filmmaker Jack Gibson, swings back through Los Angeles for a few shows next month – including a return visit to Buzz Bands LA’s SecondTuesday songwriter night at Lot 1 Cafe, where the band turned in a memorable performance last July.
Joining Tenlons will be one of the L.A. folk scene’s stalwarts, Olentangy John, giving one of his final performances before he switches coasts and moves to NYC. Also on board for BBLA’s monthly showcase in Echo Park: Xander Smith, the Run Run Run frontman who just released his solo acoustic album “Hey Pedro,” and Frank Lenz, the pop impresario/composer whose soundtrack to the movie “Holy Rollers” recently came out on Velvet Blue Music. Over the years Lenz has played with many artists (Starflyer 59, Richard Swift, the Lassie Foundation, Everest among them), as well as previously composing music for the film “Strictly Background.” His last artist album was 2007’s “Conquest Slaughter.”
Doors open at 9 p.m.; a donation of $5, which goes to the artists, is requested. Lot 1 Cafe serves food, beer and wine.
NYC will welcome Olentangy John as he gets ready to switch coats and I am sure the West Coast will miss his talent and presence. His performance in L.A. with Tenlons Fort is sure to be stellar. Holly Rollers is excellent and I remember Frank Lenz when he played with Richard Swift.
