Ears Wide Open: Louis Friend

Ah, the sweet fruits of collaboration. Ken Oak and Ed Gorski (as Oak and Gorski) make “cello rock,” a strain of pop that features Oak’s big stringed instrument. Nicholas Ruth is the former guitarist/backup singer in Malbec (and now a composer, songwriter and producer) whom we discovered last year delving, pretty deliciously, into electro-soul and folk. Together, the three are Louis Friend, and the trio’s first two songs are stickier than bubblegum on a hot sidewalk. The trio’s electro-pop minds its hooks as well as it production – it’s not a stretch to imagine the choruses from the sleek “We Get Up” and “You Never Be Alone” on the radio. Get happy.
