Download: Lesands, ‘This Is Ours’

Lesands have never been shy about their embrace of synth-pop. Early songs such as “Pretenders” to “Easy To Please” revealed Austin Taylor Tirado’s effervescent fascination for ’80s dance music. But it’s been over a year since the trio (which also includes Joel Plotnik and Michael Lee) released their “Sweet Skin” EP, and a few things have changed since then. The band not only made the move from San Diego to Los Angeles, but they’ve also gone from bright, soaring synth-pop to smooth, romantic pop noir. At least that’s what “This Is Ours,” the first taste we get from the forthcoming (still untitled) debut, has us presume. Its synths and choppy beats conspire to groove more than they shimmer, forming the foundation for slinky R&B vocals. Overall, it feels pretty sexy. Lesands are currently putting the finishing touches on the record, and will offer the music video for the tune “Prism” soon.
