Stream: LexiconDon, ‘Burn’

LexiconDon, as well as many of their Binary labelmates, have been at the forefront of the Los Angeles chillwave movement, refining and honing a distinct blend of blurry synths and infectious melodies into dreamy pop songs on their debut release, 2010’s “Pink + Blue.” “Burn” is the second single off the trio’s follow-up to that album, and immediately apparent is the track’s reluctance to drift off into oblivion. “Burn” captivates with heartbreaking indie-rock slathered in synths, a sound mastered by Anthony Gonzalez on the last two M83s records.“Burn” is more guitar-driven, and more driven in general, than typical LexiconDon dreaminess. A new, slow-building tension (reminiscent of “Midnight City”) is present throughout, perhaps an indication of the more mature (and more lucid) direction LeciconDon plan on taking their music in the near future.
