New York quartet the Men have proven as difficult to pigeonhole and they are to Google over three albums. They’ve dabbled in punk, psych-pop, hard rock and even a little classic rock, but the tie that binds the material on last spring’s album “Open Your Heart” (out on Sacred Bones) is the consistently good songcraft. “Candy” is probably the band’s most melodic nugget – heck, it’s not hard to imagine it as a Dylan song. The foursome of Mark Perro, Nick Chiericozzi, Rich Samis and Ben Greenberg (already at work on the follow-up to “Open Your Heart” and playing some new songs live) notes that one publication has laconically referred to them as “Thurston Moore & the E Street Band.” There are worse raps.
