‣ Peace. Now there’s a concept. Herbie Hancock, the L.A. Phil’s creative chair for jazz, brings a program titled “Celebrating Peace” to the Hollywood Bowl, with special guest Carlos Santana joining a cast that includes Marcus Miller, Wayne Shorter, Cindy Blackman, Zakir Hussain, Dave Holland, Andy Vargas and more.
‣ Seminal L.A. alt-rockers Concrete Blonde [pictured], back for a third go-round, bring some new material to the Troubadour for a headlining show. Singer-bassist Johnette Napolitano and guitarist Jim Mankey are now working with drummer Gabriel Ramirez.
‣ There’s a “legendary” special guest at this week’s “Open Mike Andrews” night at the Bootleg Bar – Dewey Cox. Cox, of course, is the fictional singer and protagonist of the 2007 musical comedy “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story” – a role played by John C. Reilly, who performed the film’s songs written by Dan Bern, Mike Viola, Charlie Wadhams and Marshall Crenshaw. Andrews, the singer/songwriter/composer who’s been hosting a Wednesday night Bootleg residency this month, produced the music for the movie.
‣ And Oceanside indie-rockers the Drowning Men visit the Satellite behind the recent release of their sophomore album, “All of the Unknown.”
