Stream: The Joy Formidable, ‘This Ladder Is Ours’

Just a hunch, but I’ll bet the Joy Formidable can’t wait for January, when their second album “Wolf’s Law” is released. The rise of the Welsh indie-shoegazers (now based in London) was a slow one, and some of the songs that finally appeared on their 2011 U.S. debut “The Big Roar” dated back to 2008. Today, though, the trio of Ritzy Bryan, Rhydian Dafydd and Matt Thomas unveiled a rocker from their forthcoming record. “This Ladder Is Ours” doesn’t quite have the immediate appeal of singles like “Whirring” or “A Heavy Abacus,” but it’s no less bombastic. The joy is in turning them up.
