A fantastic Friday:
‣ Earlimart celebrates the release of its new album “System Preferences,” its seventh and first in four years, with a headlining date at the Satellite, supported by Blake Hazard (of the Submarines) and Blonde Summer.
‣ Rodriguez – the rediscovered singer-songwriter who is the subject of the documentary “Searching for Sugar Man” – visits the El Rey Theatre on a night that celebrates the 10-year-anniversary of Light in the Attic Records, the label that re-released his seemingly lost albums from 1969 and ’70. Also performing: Shin Joong Hyung, Michael Chapman and Stephen John Kalinich.
‣ System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian rocks Club Nokia behind the release of his third solo album, “Harakiri!” Viza supports. That’s the video for the title track, above.
‣ Dave Stewart headlines the Troubadour behind the release of his solo album “The Ringmaster General;” it’s a “Dave Stewart and Friends” affair that includes Orianthi, Dana Glover, Nik West, Randy Cooke, Amy Keys, Kieran Kiely and Ann Marie Calhoun.
‣ His new album “One Lovely Day” just out, Citizen Cope visits the Wiltern.
‣ And Midwestern troubadour William Elliott Whitmore hits the Roxy Theatre behind his new album “Field Songs.”
