First up, for October (or, where did my September go, I seem to have misplaced it?):
‣ A year ago last week, the Lumineers did a date at the Hotel Cafe. Twelve months and a load of album sales later, the Denver-based folkies are doing a two-night stand at the Fonda Theatre, with both shows sold out. Above is L.A.-based director Ben Fee’s video for their hit “Ho Hey” – almost 8 million views, and counting.
‣ Huge month ahead at the Echo and Echoplex, where there will be dual residencies and the stairwell between the two venues will be open. Upstairs, it’s the keen electro-pop of Superhumanoids, supported on opening night by Cosmic Kids, Body Parts and Benedek. And downstairs, it’s techno wunderkind Robert DeLong, with Y LUV and the Denouement (DeLong’s old band) opening.
‣ There’s a special twist to the Last In Class residency at the Satellite too. A twist of lime, even. The upstairs bar at the Satellite will open at 6 p.m. for happy hour and some mixology demonstrations. (Cocktail culture is part of Last in Class bassist Jessica Gelt’s day job as a nightlife reporter for the Times.) Supporting on tonight’s show: TS & the Past, Haunts, Dead Dawn and Balthazar.
‣ Kera & the Lesbians have the free residency at the Bootleg Bar. Adding to the party tonight: Peter Pants and Heroes & Heroines.
at the Bootleg Bar
‣ And at the Central SAPC in Santa Monica, local electro duo Gangi do a show in advance of the release of their second album, “Gesture Is” (out Tuesday). They team up with Portland elecrto adventurers Adventure Galley.
