Think the heat wave that Los Angeles the past six weeks was a blast furnace? Wait till you get a load of “Monster Wizard,” the new single from Zig Zags, The latest from the trio of chanter-guitarist Jed Maheu (the ex-Sub Pop PR man), bassist Patrick McCarthy and drummer Bobby Martin (drums) is a heavy-metal body-slam that drones its way into every cell of your body. The single follows up “Scavenger,” a 7-inch that sold out on Mexican Summer, and a collaboration with Iggy Pop for Light in the Attic Records – a cover of Betty Davis’ “If I’m in Luck I Might Get Pick Up.” Let it rip.
