Ears Wide Open: Cayucas

Up on the central California coast, things always seem so much simpler, right? Cayucas – the Santa Monica-based quintet named for the San Luis Obispo County coastal burg of Cayucos – make it sound that way. Songwriter Zach Yudin latches onto an endless-summer feeling on his band’s first single for Secretly Canadian, the homage to town “Cayucos.” Nolan W. Goff’s video for the song honors that vibe in a way that almost makes you feel the breeze in your face and the sand between your toes. Cayucas, formerly known as Oregon Bike Trails, recorded its debut album “Like Wildfire” (due early next year) with Richard Swift, who, among his other clients, also produced Secretly Canadian labelmates (and fellow Coast Coast denizens) Gardens & Villa.
