Bell Gardens’ orchestral music first appeared on the horizon in 2010, the product of Brian McBride (Stars of the Lid) and Kenneth James Gibson (apendics.shuffle, Furry Things), two guys known for their explorations ambient and experimental electronica. Of which Bell Gardens is neither. On their first full-length “Full Sundown Assembly” (out now in the U.K. and Europe, coming in 2013 in the U.S.), the duo utilized live instrumentation and lush arrangements to achieve startlingly cinematic results. Breathy vocals and harmonies, delicate piano melodies, swooning horns – they add up to Bell Gardens’ distinct and painterly take on West Coast psychedelia. Imagine the Beach Boys scoring a film. Then pan out.
