A wintry blast of some of L.A.’s best emerging talent roared through the Echo and the Echoplex on Friday night. Curated by Origami Vinyl, 10 local bands played L.A.’s Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) 2013, which offered enticing sets from Vum, Beach Party, Gothic Tropic, Cosmonauts and the Abigails upstairs, but the real party was downstairs: Steffaloo impressed with only her second show with a full band; James Supercave stole the show with Bowie and Morrissey-influenced tunes and dance moves; Monte Mar‘s musicianship sent waves of sophisticated pop out into the crowd; Tashaki Miyaki‘s Luke Paquin and Paige Stark were in top retro-pop form; and Incan Abraham closed the night out with beats and falsettos. It was a perfect mini-festival to get show-goers out of their post-holidays slump, and perhaps, a preview of who would be heating up at SXSW in Austin during March.
