Brooklyn-based band MS MR headlined their first L.A. show on Wednesday night, and they were greeted by a packed house at the Echo. The duo’s identities were withheld for a quite some time, due to Lizzy Plaginger’s role as one of the co-owners of Neon Gold (the label who has put out releases by Passion Pit, Marina & the Diamonds, Ellie Goulding and more). But touring in support of “Candy Bar Creep Show,” the EP that Plaginger released with MS MR’s other half, Max Hershenow, was bound to unveil many things. And if there’s anything confirm the buzz around MS MR, it’s their knack for keeping a shrouded mystery in their arrangements even after they’ve come out to the world. Sleek atmospherics, percussion on steroids and soaring pop choruses sung in Plaginger’s smoky vocals were on display that night, and the crowd succumbed to seductive electro-pop songs like “Hurricane.” Night Terrors of 1927 and Camera2 kicked off the night.
