The Veils have been transporting listeners to dark places, and sometimes back, since 2004’s “The Runway Found.” Through various lineup changes, lightning bolts of inspiration and assorted transcontinental travel, songwriter Finn Andrews has shown himself to be capable of arms-waving hope and fist-clenching despair, and the first single from the the quintet’s fourth album “Time Stays, We Go” (due April 23) is more along the lines of the Veils’ big anthems. Andrews made the album in a Laurel Canyon studio with Adam Greenspan (who has credits on albums by Divine Fits and Arcade Fire, among others), and Bill Price (the Clash, the Sex Pistols, the Jesus and Mary Chain) mixed. The Veils have long made critics’ lists as one of those “underrated” or “overlooked” bands, and if “Time Stays” is the thrill ride that 2009’s “Sun Gangs” was, they won’t stay that way for long.
