There’s probably a riveting docu-drama waiting to be made about the life and times of Annie Hardy, the rail-thin singer-guitarist who roared out of Orange County eight years ago as party of grunge-gaze (OK, we just made that up) duo Giant Drag. Hardy’s prickly and hilariously R-rated observations and her wounded-waif persona made Giant Drag’s 2005 album “Heart and Unicorns” a keeper, but fortunes have relegated her to the background in recent years – she was spotted selling locks of hair on eBay a couple years ago, and claims to have taken up residence on an air mattress in her father’s San Clemente home. There have been a smattering of songs released, promises of a full LP and assorted re-packaging of old material. This week, however, she released “Unbelievable Psycho Boy” for a buck on Bandcamp; the song is the product of a longtime studio collaboration with Joe Cardamone of the Icarus Line. It features our heroine screaming her ya-yas away – or, as she explains in typically blunt fashion, “This is what happens when you party with dudes who really would rather be blowing other dudes but won’t admit it.” Rock this one loud.
