What a Wednesday – here’s what you have to choose from:
‣ We had frankly lost track of Scottish pop quartet The View, whose 2006 single “Waste Little DJs” wormed its way into our ears as the band was poised to make a splash in the U.S. and play Coachella. Alas, singer Kyle Falconer was arrested on cocaine charges that year, the band was denied visas and their debut “Hats Off to the Buskers” (2007, produced by Owen Morris of Oasis and the Verve fame) collected dust. So we were surprised to learn The View has released three albums since, including “Cheeky for a Reason,” which landed in the U.S. this month. The View plays the Troubadour tonight, with Hollerado opening, and that’s the video for “The Clock,” above.
‣ With his new album “Tape Deck Heart” en route April 23, Frank Turner headlines the Roxy Theatre, supported by Jonny Two Bags & Salvation Town and Jamie N Commons.
‣ Deep Sea Diver’s “History Speaks” was one of our favorite albums of 2012, and O.C.-bred Jessica Dobson brings her band to the Satellite, where they will open for Seattle’s Hey Marseilles, and the Steelwells play as well.
‣ Gold Star – the solo project of the Sister Ruby Band’s Marlon Rabenreither – visits the Silverlake Lounge, supported by Lael Neale, Stephen Sowan and Black Mandolin.
‣ And there’s a big local show at Los Globos features a lineup of Tashaki Miyaki, Cotillon, Dream Panther, Criminal Hygiene and Halfbluud.
