One band the Buzz Bands LA crew unfortunately missed during SXSW was Brit-rock band Cheatahs, and boy are we sorry. If this working version of their song “Fall” doesn’t tell you why, then you might not be a fan of My Bloody Valentine or Swervedriver. Cheatahs aren’t shy about their influences, and it’s admirable because they channel them well. Within seconds, the wall of guitar envelops every part of your ear, with the noisy fuzz and that bent guitar riff after the chorus adding a tender yet fervent note. Coupled with melancholic dream-pop vocals, “Fall” makes a dynamically powerful song to waft you into the reverb. Their album “Extended Plays” (a combination of their EPs “Coared” and “SANS”) is out now via Wichita.
