Premiere: Haunted Summer, ‘1996’

“1996,” the first single from the new L.A. duo Haunted Summer, floats past like four minutes of French cinema, pensive and preoccupied (possibly by its own beauty) and completely lost in the moment. It’s the lulling and lovely first step for the girl/boy duo of Bridgette Moody (ex-Torches) and John Seasons (ex-Seasons), who have moved on from their respective noisier indie-rock bands in search of more mystical places. The pair is working on an album they hope to have finished this year; this first single and its B-side “Ain’t One” were made with producer Raymond Richards (Local Natives, et al). “1996” boasts a familiar supporting cast: Scott Bassman (Kind Hearts and Coronets) on bass and Sheridan Riley (Avi Buffalo) on drums, along with a string trio of Kaitlin Wolfberg, Hannah Blumenfeld and Isaac Takeuchi (Blumenfeld is joined by Corinne Olsen and Claire Courchene in Haunted Summer’s live band). Even if this debut feels more like spring than summer, there’s no question that whatever is haunting Moody and Seasons is steering the duo toward a beautiful place.

just what LA needs – another folk band
Well, L.A.’s got plenty of everything right now, so it shouldn’t be hard to find good music to suit your non-folk bent
Well… I’ve been around a while, and I like like this…. reminds me of some classic 60s pop. Nice sound!!!
this is so beautiful.
Not what I expected. It’s okay, I guess.
I love this. Dreamy and gorgeous.
SO GOOD
This is a really beautiful song.
Really proud of these two, these songs are a really impressive debut.
Boring. You guys should have seasons and torches remix this single.
Sounds like a watered down Beach House.
I really love this song. I like their sound a lot more than their previous bands.
Wow! This song is lovely, sounds mature and sophisticated compared to their previous musical efforts with old projects.
