Coachella 2013: Local Natives, serenading the dusk

Who:Â Local Natives at the Outdoor Theatre
In 3 or Fewer Words: Natives at Sunset.
Memorable Because: Things got personal when Local Natives opened their set at the Outdoor Theatre with “You and I.” The L.A. quintet could have easily played this stage the last time they were on the Coachella bill, but the crowd spilling out of the Gobi Tent in 2010 certainly foreshadowed this moment for the 2013 crowd. “We grew up coming to this festival,” shared Taylor Rice. “It’s been such a pleasure playing while the sun’s going down.” And it was a pleasure for the fans singing along on tops of shoulders with their eyes closed and palms raised to the sky – especially when they closed out their set with harmonic and rhythmic convergence of “Sun Hands.” It kind makes me wish I could enter every evening like this.
