Who: Franz Ferdinand in the Mojave Tent
In 3 or Fewer Words: Better than button-pushers.
Memorable Because: Franz Ferdinand was playing a main stage-worthy set in a tent while The xx was Nyquilling everybody on the big lawn. Curious, these things. It was no contest here – Alax Kapranos and his once-upon-a-time main-stagers roared through 45 minutes that reinforced my long-held notion that they are the cream of the British post-punk revival wave of the ’00s. There should be news on a forthcoming fourth album any minute, but on this night the old hits sufficed, as everybody was off the ground for volleys like “Take Me Out,” “Do You Want To” and “Michael.” Indeed, it was all “Right Thoughts! Right Words! Right Action!”
What I’d Tell My Friends Who Were at The xx: Sleep tight.
