Coachella 2013: Grizzly Bear, shades of longing

Who: Grizzly Bear in the Mojave Tent
In 3 or Fewer Words: Low-lit longing.
Memorable Because: Because of its downright dangerous proximity to the raves in the Sahara Tent, the Mojave proved a tenuous locale for orchestral meditations in the dark. So up close was the best place for mental and physical immersion in the set by the Brooklyn indie darlings, whose lamp-lit stage presence added a mystical quality to their already ephemeral music. I’ll cop to not having spent as much time with Grizzly Bear’s 2012 album “Shields” as I should have, but the band’s 7:40 p.m. set, ranging from muted to raging, was like finding a painter in a sea of graffiti artists. Time to revisit.
What I’d Tell My Friends Who Were at Yeasayer: I needed more than one note.
