Coachella 2013: Hot Chip, big fun on the big stage

Who: Hot Chip at the main stage
In 3 or Fewer Words:Â Geeked out.
Memorable Because:Â “This band has been going a long time,” shared Joe Goddard, “but this is one of our best days.” It was an endearing statement, and the crowd’s eruption of cheers indicated they couldn’t have agreed more. U.K.’s Hot Chip was touring in support of their fifth album “In Your Head,” and as the first electronic band to take the main stage on Saturday, their live set made ’em sound like pros. Yes, their music is a bit zany, a bit wonky and even a bit geeky (Alexis Taylor always reminded me of a mad scientist who figured out how to make the beeps and blips control the feet), but that’s part of their charm. Hot Chip’s crowd-pleasers were undeniably “Flutes,” “Ready for the Floor” and “Over and Over” – tunes the band has played hundreds of times but still sounded innovative and, most importantly, entertaining. There was honest, fun truth in the crowd’s dancing to “I Feel Better.” We were feeling great.
What I’d Tell My Friends Who Were at Grizzly Bear: You missed a party.
