Record Store Day 2013: What it has in store for you

If you’re a Weekend 2-goer for Coachella, you can check out what the desert’s got going on for Record Store Day here. But if you’ve decided to stay in the City of Angels this weekend, make sure to head on down to your favorite local spots to grab some exclusively released wax where some of them may also have other fun activities going on in honor of Record Store Day. Here’s our quick rundown of the exclusive events going on in L.A. on Saturday, after the jump:
‣ Amoeba (Hollywood) – L.A.’s largest record store starts their activities at 10:30 AM and as usual: Starting at 12 PM they’ll have limited edition silk-screening opportunities until supplies run out; from 1:00 to 4:00 PM shoppers will have the chance to spin their prize wheel (both silk-screening and prize wheel donations will go to Silverlake Conservatory of Music); Rene Pompa will be doing caricatures; and last but not least they’ll have guest DJS including DJ Lance Rock of “Yo Gabba Gabba!” Lucinda Williams and Jeff McDonald of Red Kross.
‣ Fingerprints (Long Beach) – Mike Watt and his Black Gang project are releasing a new 7″ featuring covers of “Rebel Girl’ by Bikini Kill and “30 Days in the Hole” by Humble Pie. To celebrate Mike Watt & the Second Live will be doing an in-store performance at 8:00 PM. Other in-store performances will include:Â Best Coast at 1:00 PM (which can be streamed at clarksignals.com), Jimmy Eat World at 4:00 PM and Laurence Juber at 6:00 PM. There will also be a speicil post-RSD in-store performance with Palma Violets on Sunday at 3:00 PM. Fingerprints will open at 6:00 AM on Saturday.
‣ Origami Vinyl (Echo Park) – The small yet productive local record shop has teamed up with its neighborhood yet again to bring you a full RSD experience. Their shop opens at 8:00 AM and live performances will include stripped down sets from Nick Waterhouse and Silversun Pickups. Their DJ roster features: Josh Feingold (DoLA.com) at 8:00 AM, Chuck P (KCRW) at 9:00 AM, Bennet Kogan (KXLU) at 10:00 AM, Dean Spunt (No Age/PPM) at 11:00 AM, Carter Smith (Rollo & Grady) at 12 noon, Justin Gage (Aquarium Drunkard) at 1:00 PM, Avey Tare (Animal Collective) at 2:00 PM, Valida (KCRW) at 3:00 PM, August Brown (Pop & Hiss/LA Times) at 4:00 PM and Chris Ziegler (LA Record) at 5:00 PM. In conjunction, the Echo will have its doors open from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM where they’ll be offering $4 Beck’s and Cousin Roy will have turntables set up so you can try out all your newly purchased vinyl. Perhaps the best part about all this teaming up? Show your Origami Vinyl receipts to the following local shops and get a discount: Stories Books & Cafe, Masa of Echo Park, Xoia Vietnamese, Taza Coffee, Sweet as Vintage Boutique, Blue Collar Working Dog, Lucas Hair Salon, Villainy General Store and Echo Park Time Travel Mart.
‣ Vacation Vinyl Music (Silver Lake) – This record shop in Sunset Junction will be opening its doors one hour early and will be selling tickets to Dangerous Boys Club, Youth Code and Bronze at the Complex which goes down the same night.
‣ Rockaway Records (Silver Lake) – The shop conveniently located to your favorite drinking spots like the Red Lion and Cha Cha Lounge will also open one hour early at 10:00 AM, and most items will be 50% on sale. They’ll also have a huge raffle going on again for a Paul Stanley model guitar. 2nd place winner will win a “Beatles Disk-Go Case” (a carrying case loaded with Beatles 45s) and 3rd place winner will win a $50 Rockaway Records gift card.
‣ Hi-Fidelity (Los Feliz) – Just within walking distance of great brunch spots like the Alcove, the Mustard Seed Cafe and more, Hi-Fidelity will open its doors at 11:00 AM and will be offering live music from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
‣ Permanent Records (Eagle Rock) – Permanent Records L.A. location will be hosting live music all day long. Their lineup currently features: The Urinals, Skabbs, Zig Zags, MERX, HOTT MT, Wounded Lion, Rollin Hunt, Cab 20, Spaceships and more TBA.
‣ Mount Analog (Highland Park) – Fairly new record shop in Highland Park will offer a variety of shows from: Lovefingers and Suzanne Kraft (DJ set) 10:00 Am to 1:30 PM, Fred Armisen (stand-up comedy) from 1:30 – 2:00 PM, 100% Silk DJs from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM, Boss Harmony from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Tropic of Cancer (DJ set) from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, C.L.A.W.S. (DJ set) from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM and Silent Servant (DJ set) from 7:00 PM to close.
‣ Headline Records (Melrose District) – And your go-to spot for everything punk rock, thrash, hardcore and rockabilly will be Headline Records who will have 20% off on all embroidered patches with a Headlines Record Club Card.
