Coachella 2013: Heat’s turned up, crowds dialed down as Jurassic 5 helps Friday end in a Blur

Coachella roared into its second weekend Friday – in many ways the same as the first installment, but in some ways different. Overall, crowds were less barrel-you-over intense (ah, civility) on the less-congested but markedly warmer festival grounds. It was as if everybody had shown up for music class, and had done their homework to boot. Blur, in the main-stage headline slot, were again strong, and both the Stone Roses and Modest Mouse rebounded from last week’s shaky outings to deliver tighter performances worth of their catalogues. Jurassic 5 drew the biggest crowd of the night; Grinderman positively shredded to a half-full Mojave tent; Danny Brown guested with Purity Ring; members of Warpaint crashed Foals’ set for a brief bout of onstage dancing; and L.A.-based early-birds You Me & Us, White Arrows, Lord Huron and the Neighbourhood again proved themselves festival-worthy. Here’s a gallery of Friday action from photographer Scott Dudelson.
